Shoreline Adaptation Plan Programme

Shoreline Adaptation Plans: Lets works together to plan for the future of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's coastal areas!

Welcome to our online engagement tool for the Auckland Council Shoreline Adaptation Plan (SAP) Programme.

As part of this programme we're trying to understand how local communities use and value coastal spaces and the amenities and facilities located at the coast.

To get started, tell us about yourself by filling in the ‘About You’ questionnaire. This information will help us ensure these plans reflect the values of your local community.

You can then take part in the discussion by dragging and dropping a 'pin' from the top of the screen to a location on the map and writing a comment in the comment box that appears. Remember to zoom in to your area of interest before dropping a pin, this will help make sure it lands in the right place.  Using these pins you can tell us:

  1. What you value about the coast (e.g. natural landscapes, environmental hotspots, the way it makes you feel...
  2. What you do at the coast (e.g. how you use and access the coast, what activities you enjoy at the coast, and what facilities you use at the coast)
  3. Your experience of our dynamic coasts (changes you have seen, natural hazards you may have observed at the coast such as erosion and flooding...)
  4. Tell us how you feel Auckland Council should be managing our coastlines...

Dropping your pins: how to understand the map
Areas have been color coded based on the status of community engagement:

  • Green = active engagement on DRAFT Coastal Adaptation Strategies + Coastal Values
  • Yellow = We will be engaging in these areas soon (but you can still  drop pins here),
  • Purple = Areas we are re-engaging in (consulting only on DRAFT coastal adaptation strategies)
  • Blue = community engagement has now closed and we have completed or are in the process of completing your Shoreline Adaptation Plan
